Regional integration and economic performance: evidence from the Eurasian Economic Union

There is a strong relationship between regional integration and economic performance. This paper investigates the impact of on macroeconomic indicators in Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) – trade block created by former Soviet republics 2014. study compares two types collaboration strategies: first, unilateral liberalization with one-sided opening market access that does not imply any mutual concessions, second, reciprocal evaluated as degree countries. We apply random effect panel data analysis dataset over 25 years since 1995 covering five countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia). find that, under current stage, EAEU positively affects flows, negatively level employment, has no other performance indicators. also conclude despite declared customs union functions mainly free area facilitating trade, which different from broader objectives aims to achieve.
